Tijdens een conferentie van het European Strategy Forum for Research Infrastructures (ESFRI) eerder deze maand in Versaille zijn tien Europese onderzoeksfaciliteiten in wording toegevoegd aan de roadmap waarop al 35 faciliteiten stonden.

De voorbereidende fase van de ESFRI-projecten wordt door de EU ondersteund uit het Zevende Kaderprogramma. De tien nieuwe projecten zijn:
- Upgrade of the European Incoherent Scatter radar system (EISCAT 3D upgrade)
- European Plate Observing System EPOS)
- Svalbard Integrated Arctic Earth Observing Facility (SIAEOS)
- European Marine Biological Resource Centre (EMBRC)
- European Infrastructure of Open Screening Platforms for Chemical Biology (EU-OPENSCREEN)
- European Biomedical Imaging Infrastructure (EuroBioImaging)
- European High Security BSL-4 laboratories
- European Carbon Dioxide Capture and Storage Laboratory Infrastructure (ECCSEL)
- European Magnetic Field Laboratory (EMFL)
- Cherenkov Telescope Array CTA).
